Re-assigning the line

May 15, 2012

It occurred to me this morning that maybe originally in the saga I was relating in my last post, the blessing of wishing the beloved well with another was assigned to the boy.  Maybe in all the previous iterations it had come out more like one of those biblical patriarchs taking both women as wives.  (Which I think would mean that the girl, and the first wife, would have to have multiple husbands, too, and I’m not sure where all that proliferation of marital partners would end.)  If instead the girl has the wherewithal to speak the line first, there is more of a chance the boy will echo it back.
